Questions

What is the easiest thing to knit first?

A garter stitch dishcloth: one square, knit every row, no purling and no shaping. It teaches the cast on, the knit stitch and the bind off in an evening or two.

What do I need for these knitting patterns?

Worsted weight yarn (cotton for the dishcloth), a pair of US 7 or US 8 (4.5 or 5 mm) straight needles, scissors and a yarn needle. Each pattern lists its exact yarn amount and needle size.

Do I need circular needles for a hat?

Not for ours. The Basic Rib Knit Hat is knitted flat on straight needles in k2, p2 rib and seamed up the side, so a beginner needs only one pair of needles.

Are the PDFs free?

Yes. Each pattern can be read in full on its page, and the printable PDF (US Letter and A4) is free with a Craftuary account.
