Craftuary Studio · pattern maker guide
A crochet pattern maker is a tool that writes or draws a crochet pattern for you. For stuffed toys and ornaments, the Designer in Craftuary Studio writes the full round-by-round pattern from a description and re-counts every round; for colourwork like C2C, tapestry or filet crochet, a grid chart maker draws the graph you follow.
| You want to make | Kind of maker | Where |
|---|---|---|
| An amigurumi toy, ornament or small character | A written-pattern generator: every piece, every round, stitch counts | Craftuary Studio Designer (first design free) |
| A C2C (corner-to-corner) blanket from a picture | A grid chart maker, then a size calculator | A chart editor such as Stitch Fiddle, then the C2C calculator |
| Tapestry or filet crochet | A grid chart maker | A chart editor such as Stitch Fiddle, or graph paper |
| A blanket, scarf or simple wearable in one stitch | A calculator that does the maths | Blanket and scarf calculators |
More on how it works: the AI crochet pattern generator and amigurumi pattern generator.
Most amigurumi shapes come from one rule: a flat single crochet circle grows by 6 stitches a round (6, 12, 18, 24...). Stop increasing and the circle turns into a tube; decrease by 6 a round to close it. Write each round with its count, then paste it into the pattern checker to catch a round that doesn't add up. To spread increases in a round evenly, use the increase and decrease evenly calculator.

It depends on the pattern. For a stuffed toy or ornament, the Designer in Craftuary Studio writes the whole written pattern and re-counts every round. For colourwork (C2C, tapestry, filet), a grid chart editor such as Stitch Fiddle is the usual choice.
The Studio Designer's first design is free with a free Craftuary account. Grid chart editors like Stitch Fiddle have free versions for graphs.
For a graph (C2C or tapestry), a chart maker turns the picture into squares. For a 3D toy, the Designer takes a description and can use a photo for inspiration; it writes an original pattern and won't copy someone else's design.
Paste it into the free pattern checker: it works through every round and flags a stitch count that doesn't add up.
