Crochet pattern maker: design your own crochet pattern online

A crochet pattern maker is a tool that writes or draws a crochet pattern for you. For stuffed toys and ornaments, the Designer in Craftuary Studio writes the full round-by-round pattern from a description and re-counts every round; for colourwork like C2C, tapestry or filet crochet, a grid chart maker draws the graph you follow.

How the Designer makes an amigurumi pattern

  1. Describe it. What it is, the size, the yarn and the colours, or add a photo for inspiration.
  2. It writes every piece. Rounds in US terms with the stitch count at the end of each, yarn amounts and assembly.
  3. Jede Runde wird nachgezählt by our stitch-count check before you see the pattern.
  4. You make it. The pattern is yours to make, share or sell. As with any pattern, read it through first; we fix what makers report.

More on how it works: the AI crochet pattern generator and amigurumi pattern generator.

Making a pattern by hand

Most amigurumi shapes come from one rule: a flat single crochet circle grows by 6 stitches a round (6, 12, 18, 24...). Stop increasing and the circle turns into a tube; decrease by 6 a round to close it. Write each round with its count, then paste it into the pattern checker to catch a round that doesn't add up. To spread increases in a round evenly, use the increase and decrease evenly calculator.

Fragen

What is the best crochet pattern maker?

It depends on the pattern. For a stuffed toy or ornament, the Designer in Craftuary Studio writes the whole written pattern and re-counts every round. For colourwork (C2C, tapestry, filet), a grid chart editor such as Stitch Fiddle is the usual choice.

Is there a free crochet pattern generator?

The Studio Designer's first design is free with a free Craftuary account. Grid chart editors like Stitch Fiddle have free versions for graphs.

Can I make a crochet pattern from a picture?

For a graph (C2C or tapestry), a chart maker turns the picture into squares. For a 3D toy, the Designer takes a description and can use a photo for inspiration; it writes an original pattern and won't copy someone else's design.

How do I check a pattern I wrote myself?

Paste it into the free pattern checker: it works through every round and flags a stitch count that doesn't add up.
